New Strategy in Focus at SMC’s Annual Meeting

The adoption of a new strategy and the election of a new chairperson were two key highlights of SMC’s Annual Meeting on 21 May. The meeting took place at the Adventist Church in Stockholm, with ADRA as the host organisation.
Before the formal proceedings began, participants were invited to a thematic session focused on the newly released resource Above all, love each other deeply… The material was developed by Kristina Patring, Advisor at SMC, who also led the presentation. The material aims to serve as a support tool for those working with dialogue in complex and sensitive issues.

Decision on New Strategy
An interactive session followed, focusing on SMC’s revised strategy. The newly adopted strategy will guide the organisation from October 2025 through 2028. The need for a new strategic direction arose as part of the transition to a new organisational structure, which is to be fully in place by October 2025. We look forward with anticipation to how the new strategy will shape SMC’s continued mission and work.
Looking Back — and Ahead
The meeting began with a presentation of the 2024 Annual Report. Despite a year characterised by intensive processes, including the Sida application and the formation of a new consortium, much of SMC’s ongoing work proceeded as planned.

New Chairperson Elected
Stefan Emilsson was thanked for his dedicated leadership during a challenging period for SMC. As he stepped down from the chair position, he also resigned from the board. Anders Göranzon was elected as the new chairperson. He is already well known within the SMC network through his role at the Swedish Bible Society and as a current board member.
New Board Members
The Annual Meeting also elected new members to the board. Izla Bethdavid (ADRA) and former alternate Elin Hammarberg (The Salvation Army) were elected as regular board members. Johannes Widlund (PMU) and Anna-Carin Stenbeck (Uniting Church in Sweden) were elected as new alternates. At the same time, outgoing board members Siri Bjerkan Karlsson (ADRA) and Stefan Emilsson were thanked for their valuable contributions to the SMC Board.
