Our Board

Members of our board are elected at the Annual General Meeting. Each board member is or has been affiliated with one of our member organisations but serves in a personal capacity, representing SMC — Faith in development as a whole rather than their own organisation.

Our member organisations are highly diverse, varying in size, traditions, and areas of activity. The board reflects this diversity and brings a wide range of experience and expertise. It stands as a testament to ecumenical cooperation — a space where, despite our different expressions of faith, we work together in the shared belief in a better world.

Following the Annual General Meeting in May 2026, the following individuals are elected to the board:

Ordinary members, in order from left: Christer Åkesson, LM International, Lars-Åke Winberg, ERIKS, Anna-Carin Persson Stenbeck, Equmeniakyrkan, Andreas Henriksson, PMU, Izla Bethdavid, ADRA Sweden, Josefin Fållsten, EFK, Elin Hammarberg, Salvation Army, and, Johannes Widlund, PMU.

Deputy Board members are from the left: Johan Gärde, Caritas Sverige, Anita Suneson, Church of Sweden, and, Anna Ljung, Equmeniakyrkan.

This is what our Board does

The Board is responsible for managing SMC’s activities within the framework of the operational focus and budget approved by the Annual General Meeting. It implements decisions made by the Annual General Meeting. The Board is responsible for ideological work and the Council’s policy and strategy work in accordance with the intentions of the Annual General Meeting.

According to the statutes, the Board’s tasks include, for example:

deciding on the activities of the Swedish Mission Council within the framework established by the annual meeting
deciding on the activity plan and budget
appointing the Secretary General.

The Board meets at least four times a year and is based in Stockholm. You can find upcoming dates in our calendar.

The Presidium and Chair of the Board

The Presidium consists of the Chair of the Board, the Vice Chair, one additional Board member and the Secretary General.

The following were elected to the Presidium in May 2025:

Elin Hammarberg (Vice Chair)
Andreas Henriksson
Charlotta Norrby (Secretary General)

The Presidium’s tasks are to:

Prepare matters for the Board
Handle and decide on matters delegated by the Board
Handle and decide on certain personnel matters raised by the Secretary General
Distribute responsibilities among its members.

The chairperson is responsible for:

Leading the work of the board
Preparing the Presidium’s meetings
Assuming employer responsibility for the Secretary General.
